From July 1, 2007, victims of violence are better protected. The Federal Council has enacted the new provisions in the Swiss Civil Code (ZGB) effective from this date. The new principle is "Whoever hits, leaves." This means that courts can now order a violent person to leave the shared residence and not re-enter it for a specified period, in order to protect the victim.
