The VeV recently submitted its brief statement to the Federal Office of Justice regarding the consultation process on joint parental custody. This statement is intentionally very short, as we believe that the detailed response from the umbrella organization GeCoBi already addresses all the essential arguments in detail.

The document, submitted by GeCoBi in time for the end of the consultation period, comprises 25 pages. It details the main criticisms of the proposed law.

The criticism essentially comprises two points: the lack of mediating solutions such as mediation instead of divorce court, and the vague wording which allows a court to easily circumvent joint custody.

The response to the referendum has already been reviewed in detail and approved within GeCoBi by the member organizations, including VeV.

We hope that our objections will be heard in Bern, so that this amendment to the law can truly bring about change.

Over the next 12-24 months, however, our full commitment will still be required to make our position and our arguments known to the general public.

We'll keep you posted.
