Thank you, National Council!
The National Council today adopted the bill on joint parental custody by a vote of 151 to 13, with 9 abstentions. Eight years after the initiative by former National Councillor Reto Wehrli, the legislation was passed by a clear majority in the lower house and referred to the upper house.
What is particularly striking is the vehemence and clarity with which the Council recognized and eliminated the various minority proposals and disruptive maneuvers. It pressed ahead unwaveringly and steadfastly, refusing to be thrown off course. Disruptive maneuvers designed solely to derail or at least delay the matter were identified and rejected as such.
Now the process continues in the smaller chamber, but the proposal is on track; the National Council has made it clear with its decisive result where the journey should lead.
