The “big mail” that Simonetta Sommaruga has received since February weighs around six tons. The contents: around 1,700 paving stones. Angry men sent these to the Justice Minister via the Schickenstei.ch website, protesting against the Federal Council's delay in submitting joint custody. Now the paving stones have a new purpose: Sommaruga had them paved an area near a playground in Köniz BE that will serve as a meeting place for parents and children.

Christine Stähli, spokeswoman for the Justice Department, confirms 20 minutes of research: “Simonetta Sommaruga will inaugurate the place on Thursday. It symbolically shows how together we can pave the way for a political solution in which the well-being of the child is at the center.” For Oliver Hunziker, president of the VeV association and co-initiator of the campaign, this has come to a happy conclusion: "It's great that the stones didn't just end up in a pile."

But tomorrow it won't just be an inauguration: "There's another surprise," says Stähli.
She doesn't want to give details. Hunziker hopes that Sommaruga will present the Federal Council's long-awaited proposal on joint custody in Köniz. “That would be a great surprise gift.” This is where the work for the fathers really begins. Hunziker: "It's still a rocky road until society really puts women and men on equal terms."
