A tragic story in the NZZ. A young family, 5 children and domestic violence.

And as is so often the case, it's about at least questionable decisions made by the authorities.
In the present case, the court valued the mother's psychiatric diagnosis more highly than the allegations of violence against the father and the alienation he had obviously pursued since the separation. We can't judge whether the mother would have been up to the task, but the development of the story unfortunately has a lot of similarities to common developments, except that here the roles of mother and father are swapped for once.

We don't want to judge the court or the other authorities involved, we just want to point out that exactly these cases point to gaps in the system, to situations in which the processes and procedures used are clearly not sufficient.

The fate of the young mother and especially that of the grandparents and children makes us affected and sad.
