The Federal Council considers alternating custody to be good for the child in many cases.

This finding perfectly reflects the position of the Swiss Association of Parents (VeV Schweiz) – alternating custody cannot become the norm, as is the case with joint custody. Far too many individual factors are decisive for this.

In contrast, shared custody should become the "first choice," the preferred model. This would involve first assessing whether shared custody is feasible, and only if this proves impossible would other forms of care be considered.
